- Broken Braces
We often see patients who have broken their braces do to sports injuries. If you, or your child, have braces and play sports, we highly recommend wearing a mouthguard. Mouthguards can keep braces from breaking or damaging the mouth. If braces break for any reasons, contact Villanova Dental Studio right away.
- Loose Brackets
A loose bracket may require re-fitting. If Dr. Barakat is unable to see you right away, you may need to cut the wire or sliding bracket off until you can see the dentist. Our staff may be able to help you through this over the phone, however, if it is the weekend, and our staff is not available, you can use a sterilized fingernail clipper to trim the wire for your comfort. Our office will do everything they can to fit you in the next business day to repair the damaged braces.
- Pain or Discomfort
It is not uncommon for patients to experience some pain or discomfort from metal braces. You may take ibuprofen to help alleviate discomfort or use a heating pad to reduce soreness in the jaw. If the pain is extreme or persists, contact our office right away.
